Our School History

Our School History

St. Stephen's School was first opened in 1854 and was run by various orders of nuns for more than a century (St. Monica’s Convent, which later became a girls’ school, opened nearby in 1861). Holywell Cottage was home to the school master before becoming part of the school in the 1950s.

St. Stephen's School new buildings were opened in 2004 and then added to over the years. The articles below show some of the extensions made to the new buildings.

If you would like to learn more about the history of our school please check out the Parish website, or the Rowley Collection which has several old photographs of the school including this one from 1907: https://rowleycollection.co.uk/photo.asp?pic_num=265

Archives

Here at St Stephen’s, we are taking some time to look back through our archives - but we need your help!

  •  Do you recognise anyone in these pictures?
  • Can you tell us what year or  decade the picture was taken?

If so, please do get in contact and let us know. Take a trip down memory lane...

The Old School

We are pleased that Skipton Properties are developing the old school buildings. To find out more about the history of the buildings and what Skipton Properties are doing with them, please click here.
